Minute Monday #8: It never gets easier; except when it does
In Minute Monday #7, I made an analogy between growth and competitive sport, drawing on a quote by Tour de France winner Greg LeMond.
It never gets easier; you just get faster
In my experience, however, there is one way it does get easier the more reps you put into growth.
How? Simple! You enjoy it more and more over time.
The intellectual challenge may not get any easier, but here’s why that shouldn’t matter.
As you experiment more, you get used to learning.
You get excited by the doors it can unlock.
You get energised by where it can take you.
You lean on past knowledge and get better at predicting which experiments will create impact - though you should then diversify into less certain areas with potentially higher impact!
Equate winning with learning.
Trust deeply in the process and approach growth with the mindset of a perpetual learner.
Consistently challenge your beliefs, maintain empathy for your users, and have a thirst for knowledge.
Enjoy learning what doesn’t work to more quickly arrive at what does.
As the saying goes:
Enjoy what you do and never work another day in your life
Show up with the right mindset, and growth can be easy.
Enjoy the journey.
